The Ferry from Kirkwall to Aberdeen
Our photohunt challenge for the UK board on SlowTalk is “lights”. Since I was going to post this photo there, I decided to do a blog entry about the entire trip.
Our overnight ferry from Kirkwall, Orkney to Aberdeen left at midnight. We checked in at the gate and then joined the line of cars waiting to board.
Once it was our turn at the ramp, it felt very much like we were boarding a space ship. The theme song to ET started playing in my head.

We got a solid restful 6 hours of sleep, had a lovely continental breakfast, and drove off the ferry in Aberdeen to this view …
I’ve never been on an overnight ferry! But based on my overnight train experience (once was enough, thank you) I’m impressed you got 6 hours of sleep. Great photo essay – thanks!
